Al-Masry received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (computers and automatic control) from Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt in 1972 and obtained his master’s and doctorate in Computer Science from Stanford University in Stanford, California, in 1980. The book has been translated into Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Greek, Basquenchen (Basque) and Arabic. The current edition of the book is the seventh edition. His book is considered one of the most pioneering books in the field of database systems in the world for 25 years. Al-Masri is the author of “Basics of Database Systems” (with Shamkant Navath, published by Pearson, 7th edition, 2015). He is also Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas. Ramez Al-Masry (born Octoin Giza, Egypt) is a renowned computer scientist and researcher in the field of database systems.
